Hi I'm Carmen,
I'm the founder of Mindful Ed. I am on my own journey of self discovery and self awareness. I'm learning how to become more mindful and conscious of my foot print on the planet and the impact my choices and decisions have for myself, my family, my community and our planet.
I invite you to join me on my journey as I share what I discover on my path. I love to share resources, sources and recommendations for healthy living and support others as they become more aware and conscious of taking charge of their own lives.
I am from New Zealand but have lived the past 20 years in 6 different countries working as an international school teacher, counsellor, parenting educator, trainer and educational consultant basing much of my work on the principals of Mindfulness.
I trained as a teacher in New Zealand, gaining a teaching diploma and later a Masters degree majoring in International School Education from the UK. I have two diplomas in Counselling and Psychotherapy from the UK, am a certified Positive Discipline Parenting Educator and have been trained in the US based Mindful Schools Curriculum.
My own personal development journey has also found me studying and practicing Mindfulness and Meditation in different countries, with different teachers, for most of my adult life.
During my 25 year career as an educator I have taught children aged 3 to 12 years old in 7 schools around the world, including 4 international schools.
For the past 10 years I have lived in Dubai (UAE) during which time I have raised a child, taught at a large international school and co-founded a successful Personal Development Training Centre . From the centre I worked as a trainer and parenting educator working with children, teenagers and adults for six years, while also being the Principal and managing director of the training centre.
Today the platform for my work is Mindful Ed and developing a platform for people who are seeking to lead a more mindful and conscious life, living it with intention.
What informs my work?
As a mother to a magnificent son Jamie, I find that I am able to draw on my own personal experience of parenting while staying up to date with the latest research on parenting to inform my own practice. I believe that childhood is a precious time. Many children grow up as expatriates and have different needs to children growing up in their home country. I believe parents need to address these important issues, and many need support to understand how.
My own personal development journey and personal story also informs much of the work I do. I have lived as an expat all of my adult life, with my husband Graham who is from Scotland. I believe it is important to live in a Mindful way, aware of your own needs and fully focused on meeting them yourself, while keeping a strong sense of community in your life.
I have been studying and practicing Mindfulness and Meditation most of my adult life and it is the basis for all the work I do with families, schools and individuals. It is a blessing to be part of the growing Mindfulness movement, as more people seek out how to become Mindful and conscious in their lives.
