How can I learn Mindfulness/Meditation?

 

What is Mindfulness?

How to learn Mindfulness Meditation

One of the most effective ways to learn Mindfulness Meditation is by attending a course.  The most well known course is the 8 week Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course founded by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn in 1979 at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center. 

 

 Many people are not fortunate enough to attend a course in person, although this is ideal if the teacher is fully trained in MBSR and an experienced Mindfulness Practitioner themselves.   Therefore an on-line course is the next best option.  The MBSR Online Course is the only complete online training in MBSR and follows the same, well-respected method taught at the Center for Mindfulness in Medicine, Health Care, and Society at the University of Massachusetts Medical School.

 

 

This eight-week course offers the curriculum and methodology developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and is taught by Center for Mindfulness Executive Director Dr. Saki Santorelli, and senior instructor Florence Meleo-Meyer.

 

I absolutely loved this course and love even more that I will always have access to it.  I regularly go back into the course and follow some of the guided meditations that are on it.  I totally recommend it.  Read my review here

 

Recommended Books on Mindfulness Meditation


The following list of books all live on my bookshelf (some on my kindle).  They are much loved books I have read and often re-read on my Mindfulness Meditation journey.  I have loved putting this list together for you, and hope that they help to guide you on your own journey.  I would recommend reading them in the order I have put them on this site as this order starts out in a more gentle and practical way and moves into the deeply spiritual .   The following books have been written by the world leaders in Mindfulness and together create a journey that has the power to bring you true presence and profound peace.


Mindfulness: A practical guide to finding peace in a frantic world by Mark Williams

The book is based on Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT). MBCT revolves around a straightforward form of mindfulness meditation which takes just a few minutes a day for the full benefits to be revealed. MBCT has been clinically proven to be at least as effective as drugs for depression and it is recommended by the UK's National Institute of Clinical Excellence - in other words, it works.

 

More importantly it also works for people who are not depressed but who are struggling to keep up with the constant demands of the modern world.
